SENATOR SANDER RUE, R-ABQ. Sander is a Republican state senator from Albuquerque who has served in the Senate since January 2009. He has just finished his second term and ran unopposed for re-election in 2012. Sander will give us a preview of the upcoming 30-day legislative session that starts January 19th. The main issues in the 30-day session will be reaching a budget agreement. With New Mexico so dependent on oil revenues, the declining prices of crude should have an impact on the budgeting process. The other big issue will be driver's licenses. Going back to the days of Bill Richardson, New Mexico has issued driver's licenses to immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally. Now, the federal government finds New Mexico law is not in compliance with the Real I.D. Act and unless the law in rewritten, New Mexico licenses cannot be used to get on military bases and other federal facilities. What's more, non-compliance would mean that New Mexico driver's licenses would not be accepted at airports in the near future. In his time in the Senate, Sen. Rue has been a champion of transparency issues and getting new Mexico to become a right-to-work state. He will talk about these and of course address any other issues our FOC wish to talk about. Where else can New Mexican's get this level of access to our decision makers? Sander was raised in Albuquerque and a UNM graduate. He is married with four children. But we ask you to purchase a beverage or Food and leave the wait person a generous tip.
